Introduction
Hi there,
We aim to guide you through all the steps necessary to create your own website. On the next couple of pages you will find all the odds and ends required to start your own site.
Not just any site, but a site that will (and must) generate revenue for you.
This brings us to the first very important aspect of 'owning' a site. A website could have several purposes but most important of all is the fact that you decide up front what that purpose is of the site. This deserves some very careful thought and if you don't know what that purpose is, you should stop reading right now.
Anyway, I feel it necessary to point out a couple of things before we begin.
- Firstly, you will most probably require a credit card at some stage to purchase your domain, pay for your hosting etc. I would recommend applying for a separate card from your normal credit cards (if you already own some), as it makes sense to keep your earnings and spending for your site completely separate.
South Africa : The card I would recommend is the bluebean card. It doesn't have a massive limit (you don't need one), but the criteria to get one is reasonably low! They are backed by Standard Bank and you can apply for your card, completely free here
- Lastly, If you are planning on creating your own site, there is only one website development tool that I would personally recommend and that is Macromedia's Dreamweaver.
It is by far the best site developing tool, and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. They are slightly on the expensive side, but as far as I am concerned there simply is no better!
Right, now lets get on with the good stuff!
